Company History

For almost 50 years of business, Poitras Foundry is stronger than ever and will continue expanding in the coming years. Strategic moves in business development, technological advancement and partnerships has allowed a small business to turn into a 150-employee company producing for corporations around the world.

1920

FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

The foundation of Jos Poitras, dedicated to railroad repair, eventually becoming a plant producing wood machinery.

1973

MOVE TO BETTER GROUNDS

Relocation to the present day site of the foundry.

Jos Poitras and Sons sell to AMISCO.

The first induction furnace is installed.

1980

TRANSITION TO STANDALONE COMPANY

Fonderie Poitras is created the 26th of November.

1996

A NEW ERA

The first high speed DISAMATIC molding machine is installed.

Claude Massé ENG MBA acquires the company in 1997. This is the moment the company starts serving the transportation industry.  Over 10 million dollars invested in a modernization program.

Sales force re-organization.

Obtains ISO 9002 certification as a quality-system.

Third ABB induction furnace installed.

2001

ORGANIC GROWTH IN A CHANGING WORLD

28 000 sq/ft factory expansion along with a second DISAMATIC.

2005

MEETING THE DEMANDS OF GLOBAL MARKETS

The company receives ISO/TS16949 certification.

First Laempe purchased in a move to Isocure Core Production.

Second Laempe system put in place.

Fourth furnace installed.

Second electrical entrance installed.

Finishing department expanded to 12 000 sq/ft.

2010

INDUSTRY CALLS FOR FOCUS

2010 Poitras Foundry dedicates emphasis on automobile industry.

Lean manufacturing strategies completed.

Production lines and equipments duplicated for redundancy.

2015

NEXT STEPS IN LEAN MANUFACTURING

First robotic grinding cell installed.

Productivity feedback systems installed around the production floor.
